Tijuana Street Food Essentials

A walking outing for street food lovers who want to explore one of Mexico’s most exciting food cities.

Meets in Tijuana (near the San Diego border) » 6 food stops + market tastings » 3.5 hrs

From its mesquite-grilled carne asada taquerias to its seafood carts brimming with envy-inducing products from the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortés, Tijuana has long been one of Mexico’s best destinations for the food-loving set.

Now the second-largest city on the West Coast, counting its fast rise in recent decades on migration from the cuisine-rich states of Mexico’s north, Tijuana has transformed into a culinary epicenter with a distinctly regional style all its own.

Join Club Tengo Hambre on a food-filled walking outing on the streets of Tijuana where we’ll explore the very best of this border city’s famed fare with visits to its most exciting taquerias and mariscos stands.

From tostadas stacked impossibly high with seafood and burritos stuffed with machaca to smoked marlin-filled gobernador tacos and quesabirrias, we’ll dive deep into the spectrum of deliciousness that is Mexico’s northwesternmost corner.

We’ll also stroll through TJ’s most charming traditional mercado for a series of shop visits, tastings and a refreshing coco water.

To end the day on a norteño note, we’ll finish with a chamoy-rimmed Tecate roja michelada at one of Mexico's best michelada spots.

SMALL GROUP TRAVEL

A blogger once described CTH’s outings this way: 'It felt like very cool friends were showing us around their town.' That's what CTH is all about.

THE RENDEZVOUS POINT

Meet your CTH Host in Tijuana, just steps away from the San Diego pedestrian border crossing.

EAT. EAT. REPEAT.

Over the course of the day, we’ll visit our favorite street food stands and mom-and-pop eateries in Tijuana for a deep dive into the city’s famed cuisine.

We’ll also wander through Mercado Hidalgo for a series of tastings at our favorite market stalls.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END

We’ll finish our food-filled adventure on the streets of Tijuana over a round of micheladas at a local institution with some of the best micheladas in Mexico. From there, you can hail an Uber back to the border or stay to continue the fun in Tijuana. CTH will provide great recommendations for things to do if you decide to spend the afternoon in the city.

BEFORE YOU GO

It's a 6-stop walking outing around Tijuana, so bring comfortable shoes, as there's a lot of walking involved—about 3+ miles or 6 kilometers! There’s also a ton of food, so it's a good idea to skip breakfast!

If you're coming from San Diego, give yourself ample time for the border crossing on foot. Wait times can vary, especially during US holiday weekends. We'll provide guests with detailed instructions and recommendations for a smooth border-crossing experience in the confirmation email.

CTH’s ‘Tijuana Street Food Essentials’ is rain or shine, so be prepared.

THE CTH WAY

A blogger once described Club Tengo Hambre outings this way: 'It felt like very cool friends were showing us around their town.' That's what CTH is all about. We are a roving supper club, not a food tour. Our trips are small, intimate gatherings. Our aim is to celebrate both the social aspect of food in bringing people together and the vibrant street food scene that makes Tijuana one of the best places in the world for street food. We want you to bring your friends + make new ones.

Club Tengo Hambre’s ‘Tijuana Street Food Essentials’ outing was, quite literally, decades in the making. Years of food intel went into its curation. Our menu focuses solely on the best of Tijuana’s regional street cuisine.
