Club Tengo Hambre-Oaxaca food and market tours

From its street-side stands to the cramped stalls of its renowned public markets, join Club Tengo Hambre on a whirlwind, food-filled adventure on the streets of Oaxaca to devour the city’s quintessential fare.

Club Tengo Hambre’s 'Oaxaca Street Food Essentials' is the definitive Oaxaca street food tour that focuses on the specialties of the Valles Centrales region, with a menu of dishes that you can’t find outside of the city and its surrounding communities, let alone in other parts of Mexico or beyond. Over the course of the day, we’ll roam Oaxaca’s Centro Histórico neighborhood, hit five of our favorite street food stands, and explore three traditional markets.

For safety reasons, we do not accept children or anyone under 18 years of age. We welcome families with children on our private tours.

Includes:

  • 5 Oaxaca street food stops

  • Tastings at 3 traditional Oaxacan markets

  • 1 agua fresca

THE RENDEZVOUS POINT

Our meeting spot is in Oaxaca’s Centro neighborhood. Upon making a reservation, you will immediately receive a confirmation email with the meet up details. The meeting point is centrally located and easily accessible via walking from hotels and AirBnBs in the Centro Histórico or by the city’s taxi services.

EAT. EAT. REPEAT.

Over the course of the food tour we will visit our favorite spots in Oaxaca, eating our way through the best of the city’s famed street food. We’ll also visit three of the city’s vibrant mercados.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END

With full bellies, we’ll end our adventure at a traditional market on the very edge of Oaxaca’s Centro Histórico neighborhood. There, you can grab a cab to head to your next destination, or walk the 7 city blocks back to the center of the city, where we started.

BEFORE YOU GO

It's a walking food tour around Oaxaca’s Centro Histórico neighborhood, so bring comfortable shoes. There’s a lot of walking involved. There's also a ton of food, so it's a good idea to skip breakfast!

The heat and sun in Oaxaca can be intense. We strongly encourage people to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and hats if they are sensitive to the sun. Also, Oaxaca City sits at 1,555 meters or 5,100 feet, so please get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water before the food tour. It’s best not to show up hungover!

The summer months are Oaxaca’s rainy season. While the rain normally starts in the late afternoon, well after our tours are through, CTH’s ‘Oaxaca Street Food Essentials’ is rain or shine, so be prepared.

THE CTH WAY

A blogger once described Club Tengo Hambre food tours this way: 'It felt like very cool friends were showing us around their town.' That's what CTH is all about. We are a roving supper club. Our trips are small, intimate gatherings. Our aim is to celebrate both the social aspect of food in bringing people together and the vibrant food scene that makes Oaxaca City one of the best places in the world to eat. We want you to bring your friends + make new ones.

Club Tengo Hambre’s ‘Oaxaca Street Food Essentials’ outing was, quite literally, decades in the making. Years of food intel went into its curation. Our menu focuses solely on the best of Oaxaca’s regional street cuisine.

Word of Mouth

Book this tour with Valeria!

This tour was a highlight during our time in Oaxaca! We came to Oaxaca for the food, but we left this tour learning about the power of women-owned businesses, the gentrification that's happening in the food scene, and the ways we, as travelers, can support the community.

Delicious & informative

“Our guide, Valeria, was extremely friendly & knowledgeable, and the tour was top-notch. “

Fun and informational Oaxaca taco tour!

“Anyone can show up in a place with a recommended list of places to eat and things to order - heck I’ve done it a lot. But exploring the markets, taco stands and cafes of Oaxaca with Club Tengo Hambre and Valeria was a special experience. “
